How to test your SCT and Pixels

Purpose & Best Practices

The Choozle smart container tag (SCT) is a script that is placed on the advertiser's website that is used for the purposes of enabling Choozle's tag manager. By deploying the SCT on an advertiser's site, Choozle is able to publish pixels directly onto the specific page(s) entered on creation of the conversion event or retargeting tag. Pixels are code snippets that are used to signal a conversion has taken place or for garnering users for a retargeting pool.

Prior to campaign launch, Choozle recommends QA'ing your SCT and pixels to ensure they're working as intended.

Testing your SCT

  1. Start by navigating to your site in your preferred browser.
  2. Open the "Developer Tools" in your browser and navigate to the "Network" tab.
  3. Filter the network results by using the search bar and entering "Choozle".
    1. You may need to refresh the page to see results populate.

4. If your SCT is correctly deployed you should see the "Bootstrap.js" populate along with some similar lines to example above. Furthermore, you should see 200 statuses for all lines except the Bootstrap.js which is typically a 304.

Testing your Pixels

The following instructions are good for testing both conversion and retargeting pixels whether they are deployed through Choozle's tag manager via the SCT or if they're hosted in your own tag manager.

  1. Start by navigating to your site in your preferred browser.
  2. Open the "Developer Tools" and navigate to the "Network" tab.
  3. Filter the network results using the search bar and enter "adsrvr">
  4. If you're checking a retargeting tag, you should see the pixel fire in the network activity after refreshing the page. If you're testing a conversion pixel, complete the conversion action (button click, form submission, etc) and look for the pixel to fire in the network activity.
